PLACE AND HISTORY
Between Banyuputih, Situbondo and Wongsorejo, Banyuwangi Regency, there is a national park area that has 3 different natural exotic, namely Evergreen forest which is always green throughout the year both the rainy and dry season, Savana Bekol which is always visited by protected animals such as bull, peacock, deer and long tailed monkeys; and Bama Beach with its beautiful raw forest. The national park is called Baluran National Park. The name is taken from the mountain that houses this area, namely Mount Baluran.
This National Park began to be noticed during the Dutch East Indies occupation, in 1928 by AH. Loedeboer which has concessions in the Labuhan Merak and Mount Mesigit plantations. He feels this area has an important meaning in animal protection. At the same time in 1930 the director of the Botanical Gardens Bokor KW Dammerman proposed Baluran to be protected forest. And in 1937 the Dutch East Indies governor announced Baluran as a wildlife sanctuary. After the days of independence the Minister of Agriculture and Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia with Decree Number. SK / II / 1962 dated May 11, 1962 re-established Baluran as a wildlife reserve. Coinciding with the world conservation strategy day on 6 March 1980 the Minister of Agriculture established Baluran as a National Park.
